Balanceworks receives watches one at a time. Each job is recorded in the workshop ledger, and the watch is returned with a written account of the work.
Battery Change with Movement Health Check
A walk-in service that replaces the battery and performs a brief health check on the movement — coil resistance, gasket condition, and dial-side cleanliness. The customer receives a ledger entry recording the original battery, the replacement, and a short note on movement condition.

Service for Hand-Wind Pocket Watches
A complete bench service for hand-wind pocket watches with careful attention to the larger components — mainspring, balance staff, and click work. Includes disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, lubrication on appropriate jewels and friction points, replacement of common wear items, and final regulation. Customers receive a long-form ledger entry describing the calibre, work carried out, and timing rate.

Conservation Service for Heirloom Watches
A conservation-minded service for watches that have entered the family through inheritance. Begins with a written ledger entry at intake — case, dial, hands, movement — with photographs of each. The customer then receives a recommendation: full service, partial work, or stabilisation only. Original components are kept and labelled; any decisions that affect originality are made with the customer.

Every job is written down
A ledger entry is created at intake and completed at handover. The customer leaves with a record of what was done, not just a receipt.
The customer is consulted
Before any work that changes the watch's character — particularly on heirloom pieces — the workshop contacts the owner. Nothing consequential is done without discussion.
One watch at a time on the bench
Work proceeds in intake order. The watch in progress receives full attention; no job competes with another for bench time.
Original parts are kept
Replaced components from heirloom and pocket watch services are labelled and returned with the watch in a small envelope, not discarded.
Timing is measured, not estimated
Each regulated movement is measured on a timing machine. The resulting rate figure appears in the ledger entry so the customer has an actual number, not a general impression.
Turnaround is communicated
At intake, the customer is given a realistic timeframe. If anything changes the schedule, the workshop gets in touch before the expected date, not after.

The workshop reviews each enquiry and responds with a written intake summary and a recommended service path before any work begins.

What is the process for bringing a watch in?
Walk-ins are received during workshop hours. A ledger entry is written at the counter: case reference, condition notes, and the service under consideration. The watch is not left without that entry being completed. Customers may also submit an enquiry by email or phone before visiting.
How long does a typical service take?
Battery changes with movement checks are normally completed within one working day. Hand-wind pocket watch services run two to four weeks depending on the complexity of the calibre and current intake queue. Conservation work on heirloom watches is discussed case by case; an estimate is provided after the intake assessment.
Are the prices listed the final amount charged?
The rates shown are starting figures for each service type. If the bench assessment finds that a watch requires work beyond the standard scope — for example, a damaged balance staff or a cracked mainspring — the customer is contacted and the adjusted figure is agreed upon before work continues.
Can the workshop assess a watch before committing to a service?
Yes. Particularly for conservation and heirloom work, the workshop offers a written assessment at intake — a summary of the watch's condition and a recommendation of the appropriate path. The customer decides whether to proceed after reading it.
What happens to replaced parts?
Replaced components from pocket watch and conservation services are kept, labelled with the job reference, and returned to the customer in an envelope with the watch. Nothing is discarded without asking first.
Does the workshop handle watches by post?
Not at this time. The workshop receives watches in person at Plaza Damas. For customers travelling from outside Kuala Lumpur, it is worth contacting the workshop before making the journey to confirm the current intake schedule.
